According to The Global State of Information Security® Survey 2015, there were 42.8 million instances of reported information security incidents around the world in 2014. This marked a 48% rise from the previous year. The Survey further uncovered a 66% increase on average in security incidents year-over-year since 2009.
The Global State of Information Security® Survey 2017 found that security spending has increased 67% since 2013. This increase is attributed to the increasing instances of and risks associated with cyber crimes. For example, in 2016 the most prevalent security breach was compromises to business emails, including ransomware and phishing schemes.
